I was called to be a midwife in February 2005. After much prayer, I felt led to enroll in Mercy in Action School of Midwifery. I began studies, dually enrolled with the National College of Midwifery, in August 2005. After four and half months of intensive academic study, my husband, son of 18 months, and I prepared for my clinical study which was to take place in Manila, Philippines, for the next year. We moved to Manila and worked at the Mercy Maternity Center for 2 months prior to its closing.
Two weeks after moving to Manila we learned I was pregnant with our second child. Encountering a difficult pregnancy, we felt led by God to return to the States. We faithfully moved our family across the world again.
I then interned under a midwife in a busy birth center in Boise for 6 months until the birth of my daughter. After taking a long summer sabbatical to enjoy our new addition in our family, I began a new internship with a pair of well trained midwives, also in Boise. Under their leadership, I learned a host of skills, gained confidence, filled the requirements and passed the NARM certification exam, and began attending births on my own. Upon certification, I was awarded an Assocites degree in Midwifery from the National College. I worked with the two midwives a few months over a year until the birth of my third child.
I have taken sabbatical to enjoy, adjust and organize until now--the adventure of my own practice.
