Beginnings are so important; therefore I strive to nurture both mom and baby in the safest, healthiest way possible. I do this by keeping current on new research, keeping my credentials current, and adhering to the Midwives Model of Care.

The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. The Midwives Model of Care includes:

* Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle

* Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support

* Minimizing technological interventions

* Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.

In addition to the Midwives Model of Care, I passionately believe the following:

  • Birth is a natural rite of passage that should be guarded and protected.
  • Birth is a sacred and spiritual experience.
  • Gentleness and patience are needed to allow birth to unfold naturally.
  • Women should be provided care that allows them to birth in a safe, relaxing, private and trustworthy environment.
  • Mothers and babies should not be separated at birth.
  • Good nutrition and safe birth go hand in hand.
  • Motherhood is a woman's highest calling, a profound honor and a life-long joy.
  • The mother/baby and the mother/father relationships need to be nurtured for healthy growth through encouragement and education.

There are numerous studies showing that out of hospital birth attended by a well-equipped, well-trained midwife is safe and in many cases, has better outcomes than those in the hospital. Please read this study for further information.
